Privacy Policy

How RideClub collects, uses, protects, and retains personal information.

Last updated: 4 June 2026

RideClub processes personal information to operate planned shared rides, verify users, support payments, improve safety, provide support, and comply with applicable South African privacy requirements.

1. Who we are

RideClub is a verified shared-rides and lift-club platform for planned commutes and scheduled shared trips.

RideClub is not an e-hailing service, taxi operator, transport company, employer of drivers, bank, escrow provider, or payment processor.

Users arrange planned shared rides with one another. Drivers are independent users who offer seats on routes they already intend to travel.

2. Information we collect

  • Name, email address, phone number, account role, profile photo, and account details.
  • Identity, driver's licence, vehicle, and verification document metadata.
  • Pickup, drop-off, route, schedule, seat, price, recurring ride, and ride request details.
  • Payment method labels, payment status, payment references, payout status, support records, and dispute records.
  • Messages, support chats, reports, flags, ratings, reviews, and safety-related notes.
  • Device, browser, session, cookie, local storage, analytics, and security data.

3. Why we use information

  • Create and manage user accounts.
  • Verify riders, drivers, vehicles, and documents.
  • Match riders and drivers for planned shared rides.
  • Support ride requests, ride offers, payments, payouts, support, reports, and disputes.
  • Prevent fraud, payment abuse, identity misuse, unsafe conduct, and unlawful activity.
  • Improve the platform, matching, reliability, analytics, user experience, and campaign measurement.
  • Comply with legal obligations and cooperate with authorities where required or necessary.

4. Verification documents

RideClub does not publicly display verification documents. Verification documents are stored securely, access is restricted, and they are used only for verification, safety, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and support purposes.

Admin or reviewer access to verification documents should be limited to authorised staff and controlled review flows.

5. Payments

RideClub does not directly process, store, or handle your card, bank, or payment account details. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers.

RideClub may store payment status, provider references, payment method labels, ride payment amounts, payout status, incident status, and support or dispute records.

6. Support chats and reports

Support chat and reports may be stored for customer service, safety, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, quality improvement, training, and legal compliance.

RideClub may report suspected crime, fraud, identity misuse, payment fraud, threats, violence, harassment, theft, assault, unsafe conduct, or other unlawful activity to SAPS or relevant authorities.

7. Data, analytics, and marketing

RideClub may collect and use platform data for analytics, product improvement, marketing insights, audience understanding, campaign measurement, and promotional strategy. Direct marketing will be handled with consent and opt-out options where required.

8. Providers and cross-border processing

RideClub may use hosting, authentication, database, storage, payment, analytics, support, communication, and verification providers. Some providers may process information outside South Africa with appropriate safeguards.

9. Retention

RideClub keeps personal information only as long as reasonably needed for platform operation, safety, legal obligations, disputes, fraud prevention, support, accounting, analytics, and operational requirements.
